Carolers standing in front of the North Fountain on the grounds of the People’s House at Christmas

The attached image was taken in 1923. At that point in time, the White House was truly “The People’s House.” Although the first family had private quarters on the third floor, much of the lower floor was open to the public. The 55,000 square foot building deceptively has four stories, a basement,  and  ub-basement. There are 132 rooms in the White House, as well as 35 bathrooms and 28 fireplaces. The White House grounds include amenities such as a movie theater, swimming pool, putting green, tennis court, and a basketball court. The attached picture is of Christmas carolers singing in front of the fountain on the North Lawn. Despite security restrictions, and a very limited tour of the building, approximately 5,000 people continue to visit the White House every day.

Wishing you a festive weekend!
